Finding Balance in Your Life

Many busy working mothers or fathers who want to be able to work, have a family and take good care of themselves find it hard to find balance in their life, making their everyday routine unfulfilling. Does your life sometimes feel out of control or stressful? This usually happens for parents or individuals when they are not getting their needs met or their values are being compromised. When you’re out of balance, life can get the best of you. Learning how to build and maintain a balanced life is essential to you and your family’s well-being.

Balance is a feeling derived from being whole and complete, it is the feeling of things working together in harmony. Balance is essential to maintaining a healthy home and work environment. Life consists of many vital areas, which include your personal health, family, financial, intellectual, social, work, spiritual, recreation, personal growth, romance and much more. Everyone also has a self-concept of themselves in all of these areas. Our self-concept is the way we look at or view ourselves in every aspect of our lives. We have a self concept of ourselves as a father, husband, mother, how we are at work, our health, and so on. How you look at yourself, in each of these areas can dramatically affect the way you conduct your life and the balance you practice in your life. Obviously, not everyone spends time every day in each area in equal amounts, or pays enough attention to each aspect of their life, although if in the long run, you learn to spend a sufficient quantity and quality of time in each area, your life will start to feel in more of a balance, thus improving your self-concept of yourself in each of area of your focus. However, by choosing to neglect any one area, you could end up eventually inhibiting your own success and ultimate happiness. Much like a table, if one leg is longer or shorter than the others, it can make the entire table wobbly. For instance, if you don't take care of your health, your family or social life can suffer. If you put too much time into running your business or personal relationships, then your healthcare may suffer.

Living a Balanced Life

Living a balanced life is about integrating those components of your life that are truly important to you and realizing that sometimes you need to make choices about what your priorities are. Making choices are important and powerful and can allow you to live a more balanced life that’s aligned with your goals and values. By choosing what comes first, sometimes that might mean making sacrifices, however living a balanced life doesn’t require you to give 100 percent of yourself 100 percent of the time. There will be times when personal family life and work may collide although by knowing what’s really most important to you and learning to make choices, you’ll be better able to balance your decisions allowing you to feel more whole and balanced.
