Kids Crafts! Valentine Box Ideas

Kids love having a Valentine box to store their Valentine greetings and candy treats in. This Valentine's Day, encourage your child with these great ideas to make his or her own creative Valentine box. These Valentine boxes are fun, easy to make and provide a perfect home for all of those Valentines received by friends and family.

Creative Valentine Mailbox Ideas

Valentine's boxes are a great holiday craft because they give kids the chance to put their creativity to use. A Valentine mailbox can be made easily by children using little more than an empty laundry detergent box and his or her favorite craft supplies. This Valentine mailbox is best made a day or two in advance so that it will have time to dry. Let your child paint the detergent box using his or her favorite color of paint. Red, pink and white are all common Valentine's Day colors. Get creative by choosing different shades of each color. Once the box is painted, let it dry completely. If necessary, paint another layer. Finally, get creative by gluing cut-out hearts, glitter or stickers.

Easy Valentine Box Using Candy Boxes

Those fancy candy boxes that gourmet chocolates come in can be used for more than just candy. By getting a little creative, kids can easily turn those cardboard boxes into their own Valentine box to store their treats and greetings in. Kids can paint designs on them, decorate them with stickers and ribbon or cover the boxes with decorative stock paper, but there are many more ideas that can be found with a little creative thinking.

Have Fun with Tissue and Shoe Boxes

Valentines box designs can be simple or elaborate, all depending on personal preference. Don't be afraid to let the imagination run wild. Empty tissue boxes and shoe boxes make a great use for holiday boxes to store greetings and candy in and are easy to make using most any craft supplies. Consider lining the inside of the box with silk or decorative paper. For the outside, use holiday stencils to create cool designs on the box.

Make it a Party

If your kids have a group of friends, consider hosting a craft day and possibly a contest! You can easily print contest categories like “most creative”, “prettiest”, “most abstract”, “best use of materials”, “craziest”, etc. Then each participant can simply slip their vote for each category in the box itself!

Use your Imaganation with Materials

One of my favorite materials to use durning this holiday is crayon shavings! You can achieve a beautiful swirl affect by sandwiching crayon shavings between 2 sheets of parchment paper and ironing on low heat (the shavings will slosh around a little, so make sure you don’t put them close to the edge). Then let everything cool and cut into hearts or butterflies or letters.

You can also line the boxes with scrap fabric and secure with staples, or hot glue, or fabric glue.

And why not toss some old magazines on the craft table for a collage box? The possibilities are endless!

The great thing about all of these ideas is that all of them can be made by using craft materials that you likely already have in your home. Even better, your child will love to collect the holiday boxes and greetings that he or she collects over the years. Let your child get started now on this fun Valentine craft tradition.
